Student Life

Athletics

Intercollegiate athletics are viewed by the faculty, coaches, and administration as a vital element in the total life and educational mission of Moravian College. The intercollegiate athletics program is structured and administered with the College's liberal arts tradition and purpose always in view.

Moravian College, as an NCAA Division III institution, places the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational and athletic experience. It seeks to integrate the objectives and programs in athletics with the academic and student developmental objectives of the College. The Greyhounds compete in the Centennial Conference for football, in the Empire Eight for men's golf, and in the Landmark Conference for all other sports.

The College and the Athletics Department are committed to providing a multi-sport intercollegiate athletics program for men and women. Representing the College in its intercollegiate athletics program is a privilege and must be earned by rigorous commitment and dedicated performance. The goal of all student-athletes should be excellence in academic as well as athletic endeavors.

Moravian College sponsors 20 intercollegiate athletics programs. Men's teams compete at the varsity level in baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and track and field (indoor and outdoor). Women's teams compete in basketball, cross-country, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field (indoor and outdoor), and volleyball. The Moravian College Dance Company and Cheerleading are also part of the athletics program. The intramural program includes basketball, softball, volleyball, flag football, touch football, tennis, bowling, golf, and floor hockey.

The College offers a variety of club sports, open to all students for friendly competition. Some clubs have existed for a long time; others change from year to year, depending on student interest and demand. They have included ice hockey, men's volleyball, men's wrestling, and women's golf. Club sports are organized, operated, and managed by students, so opportunities exist to begin new ones each year. Club sports can also compete at a high level. As an example, the Equestrian Club, organized in 2003, competes on the college and university riding circuit and in the intercollegiate equestrian national championship.

Athletics and intramurals are scheduled year-round in Johnston Hall, Breidegam Field House, Steel Field, Betty Prince Field, and other playing areas. The Steel Field Athletics Complex includes the grandstand building, the Rocco Calvo Field for football, the Olympic all-weather NCAA-competition Breidegam Track, Gillespie Baseball Field, Hoffman Tennis Courts, the Blue and Grey softball field, and a field house. The HUB Field serves as the home site for men's and women's soccer and as an intramural and recreation area. Breidegam Field House is also the location of our 10,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Fitness Center and our 3,300 square foot Performance Center.
