Program director: James Scifers
Undergraduate advisors: James Scifers, Jennifer Ostrowski

Beginning in Summer 2016, Moravian College offers a master of science degree in athletic training. The Moravian College athletic training program is a full-time, two-year, entry-level, professional practice program. Upon completion of the program and successful accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), students will be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification to become a certified athletic trainer (please see below for specifics regarding program accreditation). Students from any major may apply for admission to this program. To be considered for admission into the Summer 2016 and Summer 2017 cohorts, the following prerequisites apply:

  • Students must have completed a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited four-year institution.
  • Students must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.00.
  • Students must have completed the following courses (or their equivalents) with grades of C or better:
    • Biology 103, Anatomy & Physiology 1
    • Biology 104, Anatomy & Physiology 2
    • Mathematics 107, Elementary Statistics, or Economics 156, Business Statistics, or Psychology 211
    • at least 3 of the following courses:
      • Any course in biology which counts towards the biology major
      • Physics 109, Physics for Life Sciences
      • Physics 111, Introductory Physics
      • Chemistry 108, Chemistry for Life Sciences
      • Chemistry 113, General Chemistry 1
      • Health 260, Kinesiology
      • Health 261, Prevention and Management of Sports Injuries
      • Health 360, Exercise Physiology

Students who wish to enter the Moravian College master of science in athletic training in Summer 2018 or beyond should complete the health sciences major, pre-athletic training track.

Students who enroll in the health sciences undergraduate program in Fall 2015 or beyond may choose to complete that degree program in 3 years, completing at least 5 units in the summers prior to graduation, in addition to 4.5 units in each fall and spring term. Those students may then apply to enroll in the graduate program in Summer 2018 and complete the master's degree in an additional 2 years. Please consult with an advisor on this accelerated program option.

Accreditation

Moravian College is currently seeking accreditation for their new athletic training program and is not accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The institution will be submitting a self-study to begin the accreditation process on July 1, 2017. Submission of the self-study and completion of a site visit does not guarantee that the program will become accredited. Students that graduate from the program prior to accreditation WILL NOT be eligible to sit for the credentialing examination for athletic trainers and will not be eligible for licensure in most states. The program anticipates a spring 2018 accreditation site which, if successful, would allow students to be eligible to sit for the Board of Certification to become a certified athletic trainer.
