ART 234 - Professional Practice/Art Education

This course equips future K-12 Art Education teachers with essential professional skills and current teaching practices. Students will collaborate to understand the development of comprehensive arts-based instruction, from initial planning through final implementation. Key learning outcomes include researching and applying contemporary art education trends, developing effective pedagogical strategies and artistic techniques, creating and managing classroom supply budgets, building professional documentation practices, implementing research-based instructional methods, and functioning effectively within school communities. Students will engage with the broader art education community through attendance and presentations at art education conferences, active participation in professional organizations, hands-on experience with high-impact teaching practices in school settings and collaborative arts-based instruction projects. This course emphasizes practical experience and professional networking to prepare students for successful Stage 3 field experience and careers in K-12 art education.
