NURS 535 - Health Economics

This course examines health from an economic perspective and analyzes how healthcare services are demanded and supplied. Economic theory examines the value of health from both individual and societal perspectives; the supply and demand for providers, healthcare services, and health insurance; international comparisons of healthcare expenditures; cost-benefit analysis of public policies and medical interventions; and the role of government in healthcare markets. Emphasis is placed on ethical reasoning in economic decision-making, including implications of healthcare pricing, policy decisions, and resource allocation for quality, value, and sustainability in healthcare systems.
