BIOL 349 - Skeletal Analysis 4 Credits

This course provides students with a research-based foundation in the biological study of human skeletal remains. Using both case-based scenarios and a university teaching skeleton, students will develop skills in identifying human bones, constructing biological profiles, and interpreting skeletal evidence for insights into age, sex, ancestry, stature, trauma, and life history. A special focus will be placed on the provenance of historical teaching skeletons, including methods for tracing their origins and understanding their role in anatomical and educational collections. Throughout the course, students will engage with the ethical responsibilities of working with human remains and practice professional standards of documentation and reporting.
