SPAN 362 - Linguistic Varieties Spanish World 1 Units
This course examines how Castilian Spanish has changed due to the influence of the languages with which it has come in contact in Spain and Latin America. The readings and multimedia materials will offer a new linguistic insight into the changeable concept of bilingualism, biculturalism, and diglossia. The class also gives the opportunity to discuss the social, political and cultural conditions that define when a dialect becomes a language or when a language, through contact with other(s) turns into a “pidgin” or “creole.”
