THEO 631 - Exodus in The African American Trad 3 Credits
The book of Exodus, Moses, and the exodus motif have been used in Africana literature, music, sermons, and speeches to explore themes of liberation, origin and migration, and freedom movements. This course will examine the biblical hermeneutics, history of interpretation, and contemporary cultural context for reading Exodus to develop a critical awareness of the impact of biblical interpretation and race, racism, and belonging in African American communities; racial origins and identity; and public religious discourse in power dynamics.
