SOCW 315 - Professional Skills And Ethics 4 Credits

This course introduces students to the foundational professional skills, values, and ethical principles essential for generalist social work practice. Emphasis is placed on developing a professional social work identity grounded in the NASW Code of Ethics and the profession’s commitment to service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. Students will explore ethical decision-making frameworks, communication and engagement skills, and the concept of professional use of self. Through interactive learning, case studies, role plays, and reflective assignments, students will build core competencies in ethical reasoning, boundary-setting, professional communication, and cultural humility. The course prepares students to engage effectively, ethically, and respectfully with individuals, families, groups, and communities in diverse practice settings.
Prerequisite: SOCW221 - Human Behav Social Envr AND SOCW210 - Soc Welfare Policy System AND SOCW100 - Intro to Social Work Credit Type Code: Letter Grade
