SOCW 330 - Aging In Society 4 Credits

This course explores the experiences, challenges, and opportunities of adults in mid and later life. Students will examine biological, psychological, social, cultural, and environmental factors that shape aging, as well as the systems,healthcare, housing, policy, community services, and social supports, that influence quality of life. Emphasis is placed on understanding ageism, ableism, intersectionality, and the structural inequities that impact older adults. Students will learn to engage with older adults using anti-oppressive, strengths-based approaches relevant across multiple professions.
