THEO 645 - Parables Of Jesus

This course is an advanced-level elective in New Testament studies. It is an intensive survey of the parables attributed to Jesus designed to develop students= advanced skills in exegesis and awareness of the methods of biblical criticism. The parables will be located in their literary and cultural contexts and examined as possible windows both to the teaching of the historical Jesus and to the lives of early Christian audiences. Students will encounter a variety of contemporary approaches to the parables, including, literary, existential, and liberationist readings.
