ECON 312 - The Economics of Sports 4 Credits

This course applies economic theory to a variety of amateur and professional sports, including baseball, hockey, football, basketball, soccer, and golf. Principal areas of interest are labor markets, industrial organization, and public finance. Topics for discussion: unions and strike behavior, the monopoly power of leagues, the baseball antitrust exemption, the effect of free agency on competitive balance and player salaries, and the funding of stadiums.
Prerequisite: ECON 225 or ECON 153 and ECON 154 Credit Type Code: Letter Grade
