EDUC 642 - Arts Education for Social Change


3 Credits

Arts Education for Social Change is a course that introduces the integration of arts education and social awareness. Students will examine how the arts affect social outcome and how the international artistic community in the visual, performing, and literary arts responds to human and environmental rights issues. Students will examine visual art such as drawing, painting, graphic design, sculpture, photography, and video; performing art including music, dance, and theater; literary art such as fiction and non-fiction writing and poetry; and various forms of social media. In viewing artists as advocates for social change, students will evaluate art works and issues suitable for the classroom and categorize age appropriate resources.
