This course focuses on the social, political and cultural events that have shaped France since the 1950’s. Through readings, media sources and movie clips, students will learn how such factors as the baby-boomers’ coming of age, immigration, the construction of the European Union, and globalization have, often painfully, transformed a country rooted in rural traditions into a modern, pluralistic one able to compete in the global world.

Prerequisite: FREN 210 & FREN 215
