1 Units
The course is designed to engage the students with selected works from the beginning of the seventeenth century when the literary salon culture began to flourish in Paris to the start of the French Revolution in 1789. Students will study how the themes of conformity and rebellion are represented, paying special attention to how the conflicts arising from the intersection of these apparently opposing roles-conformist and rebel-are played out in essays, novels and plays of the period. The course will be conducted entirely in French.
