Analysis and discussion of selected texts from the past two centuries, designed to introduce students to representative authors, works, and genres, and to develop critical reading and writing skills. Readings of poetry, fairy tales, and works by authors such as Goethe, Tieck, Buchner, Droste-Hulshoff, Hauptmann, Thomas Mann, Brecht, and Durrenmatt.
