HIST 266 - Introduction of Public History

4 Credits

1 Units

This course introduces students to the theories and methods of public history, an interdisciplinary subfield that produces scholarship for non-academic audiences. We will examine the development of public history as a discipline and survey its major forms: museums and historic sites, digital exhibitions, walking tours, oral history initiatives, archives, material culture studies, architectural and landscape preservation, podcasts, documentary films, and more. The course emphasizes experiential learning through group projects completed in collaboration with on- and off-campus partners.
