Spanish for Healthcare Professionals Certificate

The Certificate Program in Spanish for Health Professionals emphasizes cross-cultural communication and Spanish language acquisition for students employed in or pursuing careers in health-related professions. The four courses required for the program will help students develop proficiency in conversational Spanish with an emphasis on practical interactions in health and medical contexts. Students will also develop cultural competencies in relating to people from Hispanic cultures.

Required Courses in the Certificate
The certificate consists of Note:
Students, who place into higher levels of Spanish and want to pursue the certificate, must take SPAN 262 or SPAN 362 (see flowchart). Students must earn a C or better in SPAN 106 in order to progress to the upper-level courses in the certificate. Flowchart for Spanish Heritage and Non-Heritage Speakers
In order to be in compliance with IPEDS and Middle States requirements, the certificate program must be at least 3.75 units, and so waiving courses for students or granting retroactive credit to students placing into higher levels of Spanish is not an option for us to award the certificate. Therefore, all students, who plan to pursue the Spanish for Health Professionals Certificate, must complete a total of four courses, as explained in this chart.
